A WALK IN THE WOODS
The house sits on 60+ wooded acres, which for most of the year form an impenetrable forest filled with brambles and shrubs. The dense vegetation makes it virtually impossible to walk the property in the summer and the record snow last year made it equally difficult in the winter. In the fall, however, when the shrubs lose their leaves and the herbaceous material dies back to the ground, there is a brief window in which we are able to enter the woods. During these fall walks, we've discovered a tiny shed, a beautiful, clear wandering creek, the rusty remnants of what appears to be the front of a car (?), and, not surprisingly, a number of stone walls. Last weekend, for the first time, we walked to the west instead of the east and discovered what looked to be an old farm field - a large 100'x100', semi-flat area that is surrounded on four sides by large, moss-covered stone walls. We also found what appears to have been a tractor path, leading from the field out to the main road. Here are a few photographs from a recent walk:
